OUR STORY

In the fall of 2017 the fiddle player Anna Ekborg started dreaming about having a string trio consisting of viola d’amore, hardanger fiddle and nyckelharpa, a previously untested combination of instruments. She pitched the idea to the fiddle player Jerker Hans-Ers and the nyckelharpa player Petrus Dillner, and so Northern Resonance was created.

Our first year together was a time of experimenting, in the pursuit of finding the sound of Northern Resonance. With the resonant strings as our playground we started to explore the qualities of our instruments and how we could use these in different ways. Since then we’ve been composing music by drawing inspiration from our everyday life. We want our music to connect people and our goal is to create music that people can relate to regardless which language they speak. The majority of our tunes are dedicated to friends and family, places that mean a lot to us and moments that have reflected on our lives. We all come from a background of traditional Swedish folk music. We’ve been playing, dancing and going to festivals and concerts since we were kids and have followed the journey to where modern folk music in Sweden is today. With the knowledge we have about our traditions we feel confident to push the boundaries of nordic folk music and make our own imprint.

”It’s amazing to be in the resonating soundscape that is created through Northern Resonance. The sound is grand and sonorous, and the core is heartfelt and comes from the joy of creating and playing music together. This is what we want to communicate to our audience regardless if it’s on the dancefloor, in the big venues, at festivals and on the small and intimate concerts.” - Anna, Jerker & Petrus
